“Liquid Mirrors: Rituals of Intimacy in Self-Portraits”
This series of realistic paintings arises from a profound desire to explore the psychology of self-portraiture and the connection between intimacy and personal space.
Bathrooms, in particular, become settings charged with symbolism. These intimate and personal spaces stand as silent witnesses to our everyday lives, serving as places of physical cleansing and purification, yet also as zones of reflection and emotional renewal. Dual spaces: they are havens of solitude and contemplation, while also revealing the inherent vulnerability in nudity and self-exposure.
The water in the bathtubs acts as a symbolic portal to introspection and meditation. The reflective surfaces of mirrors create a kaleidoscope of angles and perspectives, symbolizing the various facets of identity and the complexity of the human being. These reflections, often distorted and fragmented, serve as visual metaphors for how we sometimes perceive ourselves in a fragmented and subjective manner in our quest for self-awareness.
Each painting in this series is an act of reflection, a visual ritual that allows me to explore my own thoughts and emotions. Nudity, far from being merely an act of physical exposure, becomes an allegory for the emotional vulnerability we experience when confronting ourselves in the solitude of the bath.
